Musicians as Muse: The “CULTURE” Vulture

boy-george11

80’s clothes have been rehashed, revitalized and resurrected so many times it’s as if we’ve been living in the 80’s …since the 80’s. I guess it was only a matter of time before the 80’s make-up look also gets its revival and that time has come and the muse is none other than- Boy George. Yes, the androgynous former front man of the band “Culture Club” is this fall’s unwitting beauty icon. As though making up for the staid, recession-uninspired clothes, make-up artists went all out with the make-up and hairstyling: brightly painted lips and eyes, contoured cheeks and braided and/or crimped locks have been seen in the shows of Gucci, Sonia Rykiel and Marc Jacobs. On women, the make-up actually doesn’t look bad, one may even say it looks hot. Lucky for you “Karma Chameleon” we have suggestions on how to re-interpret the runway look so you may avoid getting caught wearing the make-up equivalent of shoulder pads…

GET this GEORGEous Look:

1. Prep skin with a make-up base like Dr. Brandt Pore’s No More for a velvety, dewy glow.

2. Line upper eyelids with a blue/purple eyeliner with a subtle matte/pearly finish, instead of going full-on metallic for a more suitable for work and less drag queen look. Try M.A.C Eye Kohl in Blooz or Shu Uemura Drawing Pencil in ME Purple 10.

3. Wash lids with a brownish pink eyeshadow with minimal shimmer. Try M.A.C Mineralize Duo in Love Connection, use the pink shade as base and then smudge the iridescent brown from lash line to the crease, this will produce an ultra, natural smoky eye perfect from day to night.

4. Curl lashes with the cult fave Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler and amp up the drama with a volumizing mascara like M.A.C Mascara X in Black.

5. Give your complexion some pop by sweeping a peach colored blush from the apples of your cheek blending towards the cheekbone. M.A.C. Mineralize Blush in Improvise and Shu Uemura Glow On Blush in M Amber 82 are perfect for Asian skin.
6. Lastly, start “Turning Japanese”  with a  juicy, cherry red lip. Highly recommended is M.A.C Lipglass in Made With Love.
