Linday for Ungaro?! No! Miley for Max Azria Junior?! Pftt.
Please, no. Two horrific celebrity news flash.
(1) Lindsay Lohan is in talks with Emanuel Ungaro for the position of “Creative Consultant”. The very idea that a pedigree fashion house could take Lindsay seriously enough to be in discussion over the said position is entirely beyond me. The former star (Mean Girls can be loosely considered a pop culture breakthrough) has had her fair share of spotlight as a paparazzi favourite. Tabloids have exploited her various drinking, drink driving, drug abuse, and failed rehab issues. Her personal style is nothing to honk about - so she did earn some column space when she went for the tights-as-pants look. Not a good thing, of course. Hardly surprising that her only foray into fashion thus far is a leggings line and some self-tanning spray. With this as a portfolio, she is hardly the best fit for a luxury brand with previous standing in Haute Couture.

Esteban Cortazar is understandably furious about this. “Esteban is threatening to leave the company if they bring Lindsay on as a consultant,” said a fashion insider. “It has been a revolving door of designers there and if he leaves, his team will go with him.”
“According to a source, “Ungaro thinks Lindsay is going to bring the company new energy and new buzz, but she is going to be the nail in the coffin. Nobody will take them seriously ever again.”" Fo sho.
Cortazar has re-built the brand quite successfully since he joined, and it would be a terrible mistake if the management chooses the advice of a 23-year-old passe teenage actress over him. Harsh, but true.
(2) Miley Cyrus (of Hannah Montana fame) is teaming up with Max Azria for a juniors line at Wal-Mart. While this one actually makes business sense - the tween market is huge - I recoil at the thought of Cyrus having a hand in anything fashion-related and calling herself a “fashion designer”. Not to be an elitist or anything, but the number of actresses who think they can come up with their own collection or plonk their names on a label because they are celebrities and therefore are stylish and aspirational, is just baffling and annoying.

Real fashion designers train for many years to be expertise in their field. Who are these young punks coming into the game with their empty smiles and cookie cutter styles, and diluting the talent pool?
Couldn’t Wal-Mart have partnered with someone with more street cred? H&M’s and Topshop’s roster of collaborators are generally drool-worthy, and Target is working with Anna Sui now, with inspiration taken from Gossip Girl… Come to think of it, why didn’t Wal-Mart work with Taylor Momsen (or Little J, in GG speak) instead? That would have been much, much cooler.

At least I would wear what Momsen is wearing. Even if I’m an, erm, adult.

Totally agree with your point of view. Lindsay Lohan is a total waste of time with a penchant for designer stuff but that doesn’t mean that a person who buys designer stuff have style or can design. It’s plain hogwash! And Miley makes me CRINGE!
