Do the Moonwalk for MJ
They should have said: that’s one small moon step, (but) one giant leap for Pop history.
As my facebook bursts at the seams from my friends’ tributes to the King of Pop, one connecting theme has surfaced the most: “I tried the Moonwalk.”
Yes, that effortless, mime-like, friction-defying glide that Jacko did so well. You may have tried, but can you do it?
It was cool when the man himself did it, but the countless followers who played MJ dressed-up, topped with the fake maggi-mee curls, bling shades, sequinned or black jackets on makeshift stages in countless weekend shopping-mall variety shows just did not do it for me. Cringe. But this man was the original pipe-piper, calling out to wannabes all over the world who would tirelessly attempt (and mostly failing) one-gloved and pelvis-saluting antics, as he mesmerized them into the glide. Such was his greatness.
I did boldly try the Moonwalk at home when I was a teenager, unsuccessfully, and then decided I would rather just watch the TV and see the real thang. Too bad there wasn’t youtube then. Search the web and you will be spoilt for choice of moonwalking tutorials. Here’s my pick. Are you ready to for the Moonwalk?

Legend has it that MJ was inspired by the French Master of Mime, Marcel Marceau’s famous walking-against-the-wind mime.

p.s. I have never seen this, but apparently, there was a Moondance video game in the 1980s. Has anyone tried this?
