demisemiquaver, a womenswear label founded in 2007, is fronted by designer, Teo Ying Hui. The label is based on the ideology of creating endlessly and seeking perceptivity for each garment. Every collection is evoked by something the designer feels for and breathes for. They represent a conviction for creation, and that no clothes should just be empty shell. demisemiquaver dresses the woman who seeks unconventional feminity with a soft edge.

The BLACK HOLE collection is about looking in. It focuses on what is inside and preserves the purity within the facade. The cut and textures are the main focus in this collection. Jacquard weaves, double cloth, denim and knits are combined to create a new tactile experience for the wearer. The play on folds, pleats and panelling adds a touch of interest to the garments and the subtlety reflects a quiet consciousness that only the wearer could be aware of.

The Only Son

The arrival of THE ONLY SON at Front Row is cause for a knowing nod. They know, you know. Bouncing between Bangkok and New York, TOS’s designer Au Ekbutr Udomphol has worked for Ksubi, Sass & Bibe, and Imitation of Christ. Moving seamlessly from menswear to womenswear and  accessories (we <3), THE ONLY SON combines elements of late 90s minimalism, utilitarian sportwear and androgynous dressing. The unisex jewellery further reinforces the masculine mood. Hexgagon shapes and silver nails are reworked as necklaces, bracelets and rings. These motifs are repeated in the clothing with pieces that feature silver chain details and buttons that mimick the heads of screws. Far from being painfully hip, these are very easy-to-wear  pieces that’s auto-styled. Who’s going to argue against fuss-free styling?

Utter…ly

utter

After graduating from LaSalle College of the Arts, designer Josephine Xie started on her label whilst working as a designer for several international licensing brands. Loosely referencing the feminine ideal that the La Belle Epoque’s Gibson Girl represented, Utt’er’s S/S2011 collection is a re-interpretation of the icon at ease: taking power-dressing down a notch with a softer approach to silhouettes; abandoning hard lines for soft, feminine pieces with sporty accents on cycle-friendly pieces. Natural fabrics such as cotton, voiles and satin were seen in palettes of soft peach, green and purple.

Front Row introduces Hoi Ming - a witty, luxury brand of leather accessories from Hong Kong. As one spectator best puts it: “the whole effect is primitive and almost cult-like.” Entirely hand-crafted in leather, Hoi Ming creates bags and brooches with reason(s) and surprises. Find this in bags inspired by cloud shapes and leather bats that can be worn as a bow tie or necklace, and corsage brooches made out of cork and pony hair.
